Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough. ~ Oprah Winfrey
As we leave today for our Thanksgiving holiday break, a quick history shared by Mr. Riner on how Thanksgiving came to be. Thanksgiving can be traced back to a semi-mythical 1621 meal between pilgrims and the Wampanoag tribe, but few are aware that the modern version of Thanksgiving didn’t actually come about until much later. On October 3, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation declaring the last Thursday of November as a day of national thanksgiving. He saw the occasion as a peaceful interlude in the midst of the Civil War. It was the culmination of a 36-year crusade to make Thanksgiving a national holiday led by a woman named Sarah Josepha Hale. You might want to look her up for more details about the holiday.

And from Ms. Gallego, here’s a different kind of announcement: Anybody got a kitten? Did your cat just have kittens? If you're looking to find homes for any kittens, see Ms. Gallego in room 104. She is looking to adopt one or two kittens.
