There are about 160 students who are classified as English Language Learners because of their speaking and/or reading of English. Depending on their ability to communicate in English, they are enrolled in SDAIE (Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English) classes, which are taught by qualified teachers who have been trained in a specific method of teaching to build vocabulary, comprehension and fluency of English while teaching the California content standards.
The beginning second language learners are enrolled in four SDAIE classes as well as reading. As their English progresses, they are removed from SDAIE classes until they are can be enrolled entirely in mainstream classes.
Jordan has a parent advisory group, called English Learner Advisory Committee. The committee meets at various times during the school year. All ELAC parent are invited to attend the meetings which will be held on various Tuesdays throughout the year.
