Excused and Unexcused Absences
To report an absence please do ONE of the following:
- Notify the front office.
- Fill out an absence verification form and turn it into the front office.
- Notify the teacher.
All absence notes need to include:
- Full name of the student
- Name of the parent/guardian
- Date(s) of absence
- Reason for absence
NOTE: If a call is not received the morning of the absence OR a note is not received within 3 days of the absence OR the absence is not considered excusable under Education Codes 46014 and 48205 then they will be automatically unexcused. Please refer to the Burbank Unified School District Annual Notification to Parents/Guardians online for explanation of excusable absences.
- When a student has had 14 illness absences in the school year, a physician’s note will then be required to excuse any further
- Unexcused absences for more than ten (10) consecutive days may result in
Students are expected to be at school on time. If a student is tardy, they will need to be signed in the front office. Frequent tardiness without a valid excuse may be considered a truancy.
NOTE: If you are sending another relative or friend to pick up your child early from school they will also need to follow the above procedure BUT the parent/guardian MUST CALL A HEAD OF TIME to inform the office that someone other than themselves will be removing their child early from school, even if they are listed on the student’s emergency card.
