Dear Yellowjacket Nation,
I am proud to be the Principal of Luther Burbank Middle School. My goal at Luther is be a transparent, collaborative Principal who will challenge and inspire the staff and students. I am excited to support our teachers and staff, and to build on the traditions and great work already being done.
As a lifelong resident of Burbank, I am a product of the Burbank Unified School District, having attended William McKinley, David Starr Jordan (now Dolores Huerta) and John Burroughs High School. Immediately after high school, I attended the University of California at Davis and earned a degree in Aeronautical & Mechanical Engineering, while being a two-sport athlete playing football and running track. I began my teaching career in 1994 as a high school science teacher. In my 21 years of teaching Chemistry and Physics in the Burbank Unified and William S Hart Union School Districts, I was a department chair, leading my team in creating pacing guides and benchmark exams. For 14 of those years, I was a high school track coach and assistant football coach. Throughout my years of teaching, I found time to earn three master's degrees in Industrial & Systems Engineering, Education, and Educational Leadership.
I come from a family that has been actively involved in the community for over 50 years. My mother, brother, nieces/nephews and children have all attended Burbank schools. I am a proud father of two teenage sons, one in college and one a junior at John Burroughs.
My administrative career started in the summer of 2017 as the Principal of Summer School. Soon after, I moved to Luther Middle School to become the Title One Coordinator. In December of 2017, I was promoted to Assistant Principal (AP). For the next five years, I was an Assistant Principal at both comprehensive high schools (Burbank and Burroughs). I have had the opportunity to be in all AP roles: from Discipline, to Athletics & Activities, to Guidance & Special Education, to overseeing Curriculum & Instruction. I continue to perfect my craft, attending Association of California School Administrators seminars throughout the year.
Now I am here to serve our students and families. I am prepared to support and motivate our teaching staff. I am well-trained and dedicated to the district and the city in which I was born. I look forward to the opportunity to give back to the community, students, families and staff as the Principal of Luther Burbank Middle School.
