Technology Donations

PC Computers

Equipment must be manufactured by HP, which is the District's standard for new computer purchases for overall support and repair purposes. The PC must meet the minimum technical specifications to run Windows 11 in a satisfactory manner.

The District supports the following HP series for any use:

  • HP ProDesk 600 Series
  • HP EliteBooks 840 Series
  • HP ZBook Series

The systems must have at least an Intel Core i5-Series processor or greater and a minimum of 8 GB RAM.

If the make and model of your donation are not listed above, it may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please contact Technology Services.


Mac Computers

The Mac must meet the minimum technical specifications to run the latest version of macOS (as of writing, macOS Monterey 12.7) in a satisfactory manner, with no modifications or upgrades required.

All Mac systems must have at least an Intel Core i5 processor or greater, and a minimum of 8 GB RAM.


iPads

The iPad must meet the minimum technical specifications to run the latest version of iPadOS (as of this writing, iPadOS 15) in a satisfactory manner, with no modifications or upgrades required; be unenrolled from Find My iPad; and support enrollment into the Jamf Pro Mobile Device Management system.


Chromebooks

The minimum technical specifications are set forth in order that the computer be capable of running the latest version of ChromeOS, in a satisfactory manner, with no modifications or upgrades required; be supported by the Google Chrome Device Management System, and have at least two years left before the model's Auto Update Expiration Date (https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6220366?hl=en). 

The following is a list of HP Chromebooks that the district supports for any use:

  • HP Chromebook 11A G9 EE
  • HP Chromebook 14 G7

Required Licensing

School sites or Departments that accept approved donations must pay for any applicable Microsoft, Jamf Pro, or Chrome Device licensing fees.  This licensing is required to manage the donated device and support it throughout it's remaining lifecycle.

Monitors:

BUSD does not accept CRT monitors. All monitors must be the flat-panel type (LCD/LED) and must have a minimum screen size of 19".


Projectors:

BUSD accepts certain Epson projectors with a minimum brightness of 2200 lumens, a native resolution of 1280x720 or greater, and network capability. All other makes and models will be looked at on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration the specifications and maintenance costs (bulb life, bulb cost, filter replacement).


Printers:

No printers will be accepted as donations due to the district's use of a managed print service to provide district-wide printing via a 3rd party vendor.


Networking Equipment:

The District will consider equipment on a case-by-case basis. Consumer and "prosumer" networking equipment will not be accepted.


Servers:

The District will consider equipment on a case-by-case basis. 


Other Technology Equipment:

If the technology equipment you wish to donate does not fall under any of the above guidelines, please contact Technology Services.


Next Steps:

If you would like to donate acceptable technology equipment, submit a Technology Gift Request Form to the Administrative Secretary, Technology Services.  This form is available online here.

This will facilitate proper board approval so that a work order can be generated to have the equipment tagged as BUSD property.

Equipment is donated to the District and/or a specific school site and cannot be donated to a specific person or room. Equipment may not be moved from site to site. Staff members may not remove donated equipment if they leave BUSD.
