School Facilities Oversight Committee:
The specific charge to the Committee shall be to review proposed construction projects that are to be paid for, wholly or in part, from bond proceeds to determine if the projects are designed to rehabilitate Burbank's public schools, including: replacing inadequate electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems; complying with fire, earthquake, health and safety standards; renovating, constructing and modernizing classrooms and school facilities; and not for non-construction related salaries. The Committee shall oversee construction proposals, budgets, and schedules, to assure that all proposed projects are completed on schedule and on budget. The Committee shall advise the Board of Education in writing if the proposed projects to be paid for from bond proceeds are in compliance with the intended purpose.
The Committee shall consist of at least seven (7) members (and may be larger). The Board may also appoint Alternates and/or Ex-Officio Members for the Oversight Committee as they see fit.
Please note: Alternates and ex-officio members are not voting members of the Committee.
The Board shall appoint members of the committee at a public meeting.
The Committee shall include:
- one member who is active in a business organization representing the business community located within the District (e.g. the Chamber of Commerce);
- one member active in a senior citizens’ organization (e.g. a local senior center);
- one member who is active in a bona fide taxpayers’ organization;
- one member who is the parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the District;
- one member who is both a parent or guardian of a child enrolled in the District and active in a parent-teacher organization in the District; and
- two (2) or more general members.
Qualifications:
- be at least 18 years of age and a resident of the state.
- not be an employee or officer of the District, or a member of their immediate family.
- not be a vendor, contractor, or consultant of the District, or a member of the immediate family of any one of the proceeding.
