Good evening, this is Dr. Miller, principal at John Muir Middle School with this week’s update.

This is Spirit Week at Muir. Tomorrow, we’re asking students to wear college gear, then neon colors on Wednesday, work out gear on Thursday, and green or Muir gear on Friday.

A reminder that we are asking all parents of vaccinated students to submit their vaccination status via the link that is in this email and on our website. There is also a link on our website for you to submit proof of a negative test if your child needs to test on the 5th day after testing positive or as a close contact.

Finally, as we spend today honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the work that he did, I would ask that all parents have a talk with their child about the need to use appropriate language at school and in the community. We want to ensure that our students are not using hateful slurs like the N-word, the F-slur, or calling someone gay as an insult, as well as eliminating any profanity on campus. Even if you think that your child would never say any of those words, I would strongly request that you take time to talk with them so that they understand your expectations and you can reinforce that language like this is not acceptable anywhere.

Thank you and have a great week.
