A good Sunday evening to all Burbank Bulldogs and their families, this is Dr. Crowther with announcements for the week of August 19, 2019.

First, a thank you to all students and staff members for a great first week. There was an energy and a buzz on campus that was contagious. Let’s continue with the good vibes and have an even better week two.

BUSD is hosting a parent education opportunity on teen vaping this week, Thursday. August 22 at 6:30 p.m. in our cafeteria. This is open to parents from any of our schools, so please feel free to invite friends with students on other campuses to learn the harmful effects, and preventative measures regarding this epidemic.

The first opportunity for coffee with me, Dr. C., is on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 8:15 a.m. in the cafeteria. Parents are invited for casual conversation about all things BHS. We will alternate between mornings and evening times on a monthly basis to accommodate households and their unique schedules. These gatherings are smaller and more intimate than other meetings and allow for conversations of all kinds to take place. Please come as your schedules allow. Once again, the first coffee with the principal is the 28ththis month, at 8:15 a.m. in the cafeteria.

Fall sports begin this week. On Monday, girls’ volleyball will host Providence High in a 3:30 varsity match at BHS. On Friday, the football season kicks off when our Bulldogs host Moorpark in nonleague action at 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Field.

Tryouts for other programs continue this week and are as follows:

Baseball tryouts are Monday at the baseball field and softball is Tuesday at McCambridge. Boys’ soccer will offer individual workouts to players who missed last week’s tryout. Girls’ basketball tryouts are Tuesday and Thursday. Boys’ basketball concluded tryouts last week.

A thank you for your patience with wait time in the Student Center. Counselors will continue to respond to emails in the order they were received. Please do not feel the need to send more than one email on the same matter, as this slows down the process for all students. We will be balancing some classes this week and it is possible that class changes will take place in order to secure the best academic experience for all students at Burbank High. I appreciate our amazing counseling team continuing to make time for every one of their students. Please continue to be patient as we move through the process this week.

Student parking spots have been assigned, students without a parking permit may not use the parking garage. If they would like to apply, applications can be submitted to the Student Center.

This concludes announcements for the week ahead. Remember it is still great to be a Bulldog and we are Burbank! Have a wonderful Sunday night.

A Good Sunday Evening to all BHS Families,

This is Dr. Crowther with reminders regarding first day procedures for Monday, August 12, 2019.

Remember, there is no Period 0, or Early Release on the first day of school. All students start at 8:00 a.m. As students enter the quad, they will be directed to one of our kiosk stations, where large spreadsheets list all students by grade level, last name and first period class. There is also a master list of all students located in the cafeteria. Any student who is not listed, should report to the Student Center for assistance.

Students will then report to first period, where they will be given a copy of their official schedule of classes. Our ASB students and many BHS staff will be in the quad to assist students and they will be identifiable by a BHS shirt.

One more important note about schedules; classes are full, our schedule is impacted, and we cannot make schedule changes based on teacher requests. Only scheduling errors or course changes can be accommodated at this time. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

I want to encourage all families to join our PTSA. Our first meeting this school year is Wednesday, August 14 at 7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. You can join in person for just $7.00. You can also visit, https://jointotem.com/ca/burbank/burbank-high-ptsa, and support our PTSA today!

Good luck to all Bulldogs this school year. Remember the importance of a great start as it is much easier to “stay caught-up” then to “get caught-up.” Make your mark, and have a successful year.

It’s still great to be a Bulldog, we are Burbank… good night.

    -Dr. Crowther, Principal

I want to encourage all families to join our PTSA. Last year, the PTSA donated over $3,000 in scholarships to the senior class, senior trip, provide all concessions for home BHS football games, sponsored senior breakfast, paid for the social science student award dinner, assisted with graduation, held “Reflections” art awards, hosted four faculty and staff luncheons, supported fare-wage raises and BUSD efforts to pass the parcel tax.

Visit, https://jointotem.com/ca/burbank/burbank-high-ptsa, and support our PTSA today!

This Friday is a football scrimmage versus West Ranch, our season kicks-off Friday, August 23 against Moorpark at Memorial Field. Come on out and support our Bulldogs. Girls’ volleyball begins its season against Providence on August 19. See the calendar on our school website for a full breakdown of the fall sports’ season, activities and much more. You are also encouraged to download our app and to follow us on social media. You can follow me, Dr. C @BHSBUSD, on Twitter. Please do.

As families get acquainted with our nine new teachers for this school year, I would also like everyone to join us in welcoming new School Resource Officer Dustin Rodriguez. Officer Rodriguez will be on campus at BHS and will have an office in our Student Center.

I am also pleased to announce Sidney Cooke as our new boys’ basketball coach. Coach is well known in the SoCal Hoops scene having been around basketball for decades. He coached at Renaissance Academy for 16 years, winning two CIF titles, and he was most recently assisting the program at Glendale Community College. Most importantly, he will develop student-athletes in the truest sense of the word.

Good luck to all Bulldogs this school year. Remember the importance of a great start as it is much easier to “stay caught-up” then to “get caught-up.” Make your mark, and have a successful year.

It’s still great to be a Bulldog, we are Burbank… good night.
