All choirs at John Muir study various genres of music and vocal production. Choreography is often incorporated as a component of their performance and education. Each choir has different performance goals as specified below. In all choirs, students are required to either audition or complete the Muir choir they were in previously.
Musical Mustangs: 6th grade Mixed Choir. This choir performs in all 3 school concerts. Although non-competitive, this ensemble is training to build skills in both vocal music and choreography.
Guys and Dolls: 7th grade Mixed Choir. Aside from performing in all three school concerts, this choir also prepares to gain exposure to competition in the mixed and/or novice category.
Girls Next Door: 7th/8th grade Girls Choir. Aside from performing in all three school concerts, this choir prepares to compete in various choral competitions throughout the year at the unisex and/or intermediate category. This ensemble also fundraises to perform at Magic Mountain and Disneyland annually.
Imaginations: 8th grade Advanced Mixed Choir. Aside from performing in all three school concerts, the choir prepares to compete in various choral competitions throughout the year at the mixed and/or advanced category. This ensemble is often selected to participate in special performances, and fundraises to perform at Magic Mountain and Disneyland annually.

Beginning Winds - a beginning band class open to any student.
Concert Band - an intermediate band class. An audition is required.
Symphonic Band - an advanced band class. An audition is required.
Beginning Strings - a beginning orchestra class open to any student.
String Orchestra - an intermediate/advanced orchestra class. An audition is required.
