Luther Burbank Middle School

CHOIR is a year-long course designed to develop students singing ability in a solo and group setting, highlighting music theory and sight-reading. The course will emphasize vocal music performances and preparation for entrance into a high school vocal music program.

Introduction to Music is a course is designed to give students an introduction to music. Students will be introduced to various elements of music through exploration of music theory, music history, listening assignments, rhythm activities and a variety of other resources to provide them with a broad exposure to the various styles of music that are present in today’s society.

Beginning Band is designed to give students interested in learning an instrument the opportunity to perform in a large ensemble. This class also provides various performance opportunities for the student in a variety of settings. Each daily lesson objective is designed to foster and promote musical growth through the playing of an instrument. As a member of the band program, group effort and cooperation are essential for our success. Basic music theory, music history, tone production, rehearsal and performance techniques are a few topics that will be covered throughout this course. Band is a skilled effort in which each student is expected to show technical and musical growth throughout the course of the school year.

Concert Band is intended for intermediate students that have achieved an intermediate level of proficiency on their instrument. This course also provides various performance opportunities for the student in a variety of settings. Each daily lesson objective is designed to foster and promote musical growth through the playing of an instrument. As a member of the band program, group effort and cooperation are essential for our success. Music theory, music history, tone production, rehearsal and performance techniques, and music technology, are a few topics that will be covered throughout this course. Band is a skilled effort in which each student is expected to show technical and musical growth throughout the course of the school year.

Wind Ensemble is designed to give each student an enriching and diverse instrumental music education. This class provides various performance opportunities for the student in a variety of settings.
