Outdoor Science School (OSS) is a long-standing Bret Harte tradition to bring a week long educational and outdoor experience for 5th grade students.

Thousand Pines Outdoor Education Camp is located in Crestline, California.  Accompanied and supervised by the fifth grade teachers and Ms. Walter, the students work closely with Thousand Pines’ experienced staff to learn Science standards in an outdoor setting.  The program allows students a variety of experiences not available in a regular classroom setting including cabin life, study trails, and confidence.

Fundraising for OSS begins in Kindergarten with magazine sales and is in high gear during 4th and 5th grade.  Because of these efforts and the Bret Harte Fundraising Committee, every child in fifth grade is given this wonderful opportunity.
