Welcome to Luther Burbank Middle School!
As I enter my second year at the helm of the Yellowjacket Nation, I am happy to be a part of a school with a great tradition of high caliber teachers, award-winning visual and performing arts programs and Career Tech Ed classes that prepare students for high school. With a rise in enrollment of 13% and recently being named the number #1 middle school in Burbank by MyBurbank.com, LBMS is excited and ready to take on any new challenges.
LBMS has a long history of being home to excellent teachers. This past year, Mrs. Alanna Grimaldi became the Teacher of the Year for the Burbank Unified School District, then on to Los Angeles County Teacher of the Year, and most recently was named a 2024 California Teacher of the Year Finalist. Mrs. Grimaldi has been a 6th grade science teacher at LBMS for the past seven years. Her dynamic personality and passion for science can be seen in every lesson she teaches.
Since the turn of the century, LBMS has been home to outstanding elective programs that cover visual and performing arts, CTE and world language classes. Mr. Anthony Redman and Ms. Stefanie Enokian have been the directors of the best middle school choir program in the city. Ms. Lisa Raluy and Mr. Lucas Gattuso have created robust Culinary Arts and Digital Media programs respectively. One of the most popular elective classes on campus is Mr. Solorzano’s Spanish class, which draws students from all grades and prepares them for the rigors of high school. The Engineering/STEAM program at Luther led by Ms. Jessica Schackne has challenged students and sparked curiosity. Ms. Schanckne most recently took her class to visit the Burbank Tesla facility for “Introduce A Girl To Engineering Day”. Our diverse elective courses led by exceptional teachers offer students ample opportunities for career exploration and promotes representation and empowerment of underrepresented groups.
Along with a strong focus on academics, LBMS faculty and staff stress our core values of Respect, Excellence, and Community every day. Our amazing teachers work hard to create an exceptional learning environment for our students. The respectful environment created by our teachers cultivates learning and growth. We create positive relationships and a strong sense of community. Our goal is that all students are compassionate, respectful and filled with desire to meet new challenges.
Luther Burbank Middle School is a place where exceptional teaching and learning is the norm. I am truly honored to be a part of the Yellowjacket Nation.
