Welcome to the John Muir Middle School website. Nestled at the base of the Verdugo mountains, John Muir lies in the northeast corner of Burbank. The largest of the three middle schools in the Burbank Unified School District, John Muir serves a diverse population. There are four administrators, 2.6 counselors, 65 teachers, 10 teacher assistants, 1 School Resource Officer (SRO), 4 campus supervisors, 1 nurse, 1 speech therapist, 1 school psychologist and 10 office support staff.

We emphasize a rigorous academic program and provide outstanding opportunities for students to create and perform. Our Academic Performance Index (API) has risen 112 points in the last five years. We have award-winning programs in drama, vocal music, instrumental music, and arts. We have designed and implemented instructional programs that ensure all students master the State of California Content Standards for each subject area at each grade level. With four computer labs and computers in most classrooms, technology is an integral part of every subject area.

We maintain a safe and orderly campus at John Muir Middle School. Over the past two and one-half years the City of Burbank has generously awarded all the middle schools in Burbank with a grant to prevent bullying and violence on campus. The grant enables us to conduct a variety of activities that promote mutual respect and civility.

John Muir Middle School is a wonderful school with a caring and dedicated staff. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Daniel Hacking
Principal, John Muir Middle School
