Welcome to Washington! George Washington Elementary School, a 1995 California Distinguished School, and a recipient of two Golden Bell awards, invites you to investigate the rich academic environment our students enjoy. SCHOOL DESCRIPTION
George Washington Elementary School is located in Burbank, California. The school was built in 1927 and was recently modernized. Our grounds and red, white and blue buildings are beautifully maintained often causing visitors to remark on how charming Washington School is. The K-5 student body of 600 is ethnically and culturally diverse, serving families from more than 20 language backgrounds from around the world. A mainstream program for Deaf and hard of hearing students exists on the campus, including seven classrooms in which hearing and hearing-impaired students attend school and learn together. Washington also has a unique Environmental Garden, which encourages hands-on science, recycling, and environmental awareness. Activities in the garden are integrated with all areas of the curriculum. Students at Washington also incorporate technology in all areas of the curriculum through activities and projects developed in our Computer Lab. Our 2nd through 5th grade students participate in the Accelerated Reader Program using Macintosh computers in their classrooms. Washington was awarded the designation of California Distinguished School in 1995 and received two coveted Golden Bell Awards from the California School Boards Association for its language program for English Learners and Deaf and hard of hearing students and for the Environmental Garden. Students at Washington learn in an environment of rich academics under the guidance of dedicated, committed, and caring teachers and staff. | |
