SCHOOL DESCRIPTION
Walt Disney Elementary is a K-5 school located in a suburban community north of Los Angeles in the city of Burbank. Disney has a total enrollment of 425 students. Just under two-thirds of students who enroll at Disney Elementary School speak a language other than English as their first language. Currently seventeen different languages are represented in the total school population. Most of the English language learners speak Spanish as their first language. Disney is designated a school wide Title I program school, which means we receive federal funding for programs designed to meet the specific needs of our students.
WHAT MAKES DISNEY A HIGH PERFORMING SCHOOL
- School staff is dedicated to making sure that all students master reading and math skills and apply these skills to science, history/social science, literature and the arts
- Students are assessed four times during the year to make sure they are learning
- Student assessments are analyzed by staff, and resources are allocated to student needs
- Intervention classes are provided before and after school to address learning needs
- School staff is continually trained in research verified instructional strategies to deliver high level instruction that will result in student learning
- Curriculum is aligned to the California content standards
- Parents take pride in the school and support the learning of their children
- Emphasis is on developing understanding, respect, cooperation and teamwork
- School-wide events celebrating the accomplishments of students include Science Fair, Open House, Holiday Program, Spring Dance and Multicultural Evenings
