Last year we set a goal to increase the District wide attendance rate by one percent. During the 2003-2004 school year there was a measurable increase, but we need to continue in our efforts to reach the original one percent goal. It is important for you and your student to understand that regular attendance benefits their instructional program and lays the groundwork for punctuality and dependability throughout their lives. Positive attendance also assists the school district with funding for staff, and programs to enhance your student's educational experience.

Therefore, we are asking parents/guardians and students to review the Annual Notification to Parents and the state guidelines related to attendance. While we understand that absences are inevitable, we ask that you eliminate unexcused absences. An example of this would be a family vacation or family business not related to allowable absences as defined on page two of the booklet. Additionally, if you must take your student out of school for doctor/dental appointments, please make every attempt to schedule appointments later in the day.
With your assistance, the Burbank Unified School District will reach our goal of one percent and provide additional resources for the success of our students and our community. Remember, the Power of 1% is the responsibility of everyone and we need to count on you for your support!
